Porirua has seven beaches close to Amethyst Court Motor Lodge:
Titahi Bay:A popular swimming and surfing beach, with toilets and changing facilities at both ends. To keep you safe in the water, surf lifeguards patrol the beach on weekends during the summer months, and all week long during December and January. ![]() Karehana Bay, Plimmerton:A popular boating area, Karehana Bay has a small flat sandy beach area suitable for sunbathing and swimming. Toilet and changing facilities are available at the northern end of the beach. Plimmerton:A very popular beach for swimmers and an exciting spot for windsurfers (with specially designated windsurfing areas at the southern end of the beach). There are toilets and changing facilities at the beach's southern end. Pukerua Bay:A safe, beach, suitable for swimmers and keen surfers alike. Being sheltered from the south, it's a great bathing spot even if there's a southerly wind blowing. Three small toilet and changing facilities are available, along with limited parking spaces. Browns Bay, Whitby:A very safe, shallow swimming beach. It has a mud bottom, so you won't need to worry about sharp stones underfoot! Onehunga or Shelly Bay, Titahi Bay, Whitireia Park:A safe, flat beach especially popular with families. Activities that you can enjoy here include swimming, snorkelling, windsurfing, fishing, walking and picnicking. Mountain biking around the peninsula. Paremata:Also known as Dolly Varden Beach, located close to the main highway at Paremata, and with public toilets and barbeque facilities. Take extra care as it's a busy area for aquatic recreation pursuits with the Paremata Boating Club located on the south side of the channel and a public boat launching facility on the north side. |
