Ara Harakeke (The Flax Pathway) is an award winning cycleway and walkway linking Plimmerton and Pukerua Bay. This worthwhile project was identified some years ago and will be enjoyed by many people for years to come.

At present cyclists can leave State Highway 1 Ara Harakeke Cycle tracknorth of the Plimmerton Weighstation and cycle along gently undulating and landscaped pathway, constructed from new materials and reusing parts of the old State Highway. Cyclists travel along the Taupo Swamp reserve land to finish the cycleway at the shops at Pukerua Bay.

The track is 1.25 kilometres long and involves straights, hills, forest, skills and bridges. It can be accessed either off Warspite Avenue (Ascot Park), next to Waitangirua Intermediate, or from the Ascot Park Reserve carpark on Conclusion Street.
